Since their beginning the Beatles have become the most successful band in the world. It's members include John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Richard Starkey a.k.a. Ringo Starr. The four members of the band are from Liverpool a small city in England. The first of the original members to join the band was John Lennon. Then Paul McCartney was introduced to John and he was accepted into the band. Then George was introduced to John by Paul and he was accepted into the band. Before they became the Beatles they were: The Quarry Men, The Silver Beatles, and then the Beatles. The Beatles played in small clubs all over England and in Hamburg, Germany. They slowly gained fame in Europe and a man named Brian Epstein offered to be their manager and the group accepted this offer. After a while they recorded their first number 1 hit "Please Please Me." Once it was released in America it sold millions. They arrived at New York, New York on a Pan American jet to be greeted by thousands of screaming fans (mostly teenage girls) at JFK INTL. Their first appearance in America was on the "Ed Sullivan Show" which got millions and millions of viewers the night they were on. This was followed by two American tours which made them the greatest band of their time. They all collected millions of dollars and when around the press they made jokes about almost every question. Soon "Beatlemania" spread all over the world. By then the Beatles were starting to make a movie. The first movie the Beatles ever made was "A Hard Days Night." At almost every concert girls screamed their lungs out and fainted just because they saw the Beatles, the movies they made were no exception. Girls screamed in excitement just at the sight of the Beatles on the big screen. Ambulances were called and even just seeing the Beatles on the screen made girls faint. The Beatles released another movie originally called "Eight Arms to Hold You" but when Lennon wrote a song called "Help!" the director immediately changed the name. Most of the Beatles' films are critically acclaimed and all did well at the box office. Tons of products were made such as posters, pillows, cards, records, figures, clothes, etc. Almost every song the Beatles released was a hit which made them unique. Several bands such as the "Byrds" used the Beatles as role models. The Beatles said that the other bands weren't stealing their material, they were their role models just as some artists were the Beatles role models. After a while the Beatles couldn't take going to a concert and not being appreciated for their music. So they quit doing concerts and focused on making music in the studio. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was considered the Beatles best album and marked a turning point in their career. The Beatles then recorded several albums in the studio, still most of them were successes. Soon many hardships came to the Beatles and they all had separate things they wanted to do and separate lives they wanted to live. Finally in 1970 the Beatles broke up after being unpleasant for almost 2 years. Their last concert they did was on top of a building where they performed Let it Be. They were asked to have a reunion but they said no. Then in 1995 the Beatles all except for John Lennon were reunited for "The Beatles Anthology." The Guinness Book of World Records says that since the Beatles started they have sold an estimated 1 billion records, tapes, and CD's. Plus the best songwriters in history according to the Guinness book are John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and last but not least the Beatles are the most successful band in history according to the Guinness book. The Beatles still remain popular today. |
